(June 16, 2021 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution built an early lead but could not add on, and Blake Allemand’s second home run of the night in the top of the eighth pushed the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 5-4 victory at PeoplesBank Park on Wednesday evening. The Revs will look to avoid the sweep in the sixth of a 12-game homestand on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The Revs got off to a hot start with a three-run, three-hit first inning. Darian Sandford reached first on a lead-off walk. Yan Sanchez followed with a double, moving Sandford to third. Melky Mesa singled to left to score Sandford with the first run. Sanchez scored on a throwing error from shortstop Cleuluis Rondon, and Carlos Castro brought in Mesa with a sac fly to center for a quick 3-0 lead.
Revs starter Alex Sanabia faced the minimum through the first three innings, but Lancaster got on the board in the fourth with their own three-hit frame. Allemand smacked a one-out double to right and Blake Gailen followed with a base hit to center that could not be fielded cleanly by Sandford, allowing Allemand to score from second. With Gailen at second following the error, Trayvon Robinson took advantage with a line drive single to right to cut York’s lead to one at 3-2.
York answered emphatically in their fourth with a lead-off home run from Andrew Dundon over the Arch Nemesis in left to make it a 4-2 game.
Lancaster made it a one-run game once again in the sixth as Allemand collected his fifth home run and second of the current series on a drive to right field, nudging Lancaster within 4-3.
Two innings later, Allemand struck again, this time giving Lancaster a 5-4 lead on a two-run home run to left center as the switch hitter went yard from each side of the plate in Wednesday’s contest. It was his sixth homer of the season, and fourth against the Revs.
Sanabia settled for a no decision in his fourth start, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts in six innings.
Lancaster starter Daniel Taggart left in the fifth due to an apparent injury. The right hander allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, two walks, and punched out two in four innings plus a batter.
Duke von Schamann (1-2, 7.31) makes his fourth start of season for the Revs on Thursday night. Left-hander Augie Sylk (0-0, 4.50) will make the start for Lancaster, his second for the Barnstormers. Notes: Mesa’s first inning RBI was the 173rd of his Revs career, tying Chris Nowak for ninth most in franchise history; he is now 9-for-17 on a five-game hitting streak. Sanchez (2-for-5) has now hit safely in all seven games since joining the Revs, while posting his fourth straight multi-hit game. Brandon Fry (0-1) was charged with the eighth inning runs, ending Revs season-best scoreless streaks of five outings and 6.1 innings.
