Pina Grand Slam Leads 16-6 Win Over RailCats

GARY, Ind.- The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks (35-26) took it to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (23-37) with a 16-6 final in the series opener at the Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana.

The sixteen runs against the RailCats are the most Gary SouthShore has allowed this season, and the 10-run loss ties the largest run-differential of the year.

A four-hit three, three-run first opened things up for the Redhawks with as they got off to a hot start right off the bat, but the ‘Cats come within striking distance in the bottom of the frame as Daniel Lingua cranked his second of the year, a two-run shot to make it 3-2 after one.

Lingua was one of four RailCats with a multi-hit effort, yet despite recording 12 hits which was just four shy of the Redhawks 16 on the day, the RailCats would score just six runs.

In the second, Correlle Prime added some more baggage with a two-run home run to make it 5-2, Prime’s first of two hits on the day en route to a team-high five RBI.

Things stayed the same until the top of the sixth when the Redhawks scored five. As the benches cleared with two down in the inning after Manny Boscan was hit by a pitch, the following batter mopped up the bad blood that had spilled on the field. Leo Pina blasted a grand slam to take a 10-2 lead, all but culminating Trevor Lubking’s day on the mound.

Lubking would finish with 6.1 innings and a season-high 11 earned runs on 11 hits as he walked three and struck out six.

The win went to Gage Hinsz who added five frames of two-run baseball with five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Despite four RailCats’ runs in the latter three innings of the game, the Redhawks would close things out four hours after first pitch in front of a season-high 6,075 in attendance.

Game two between the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks is scheduled for tomorrow, July 24 at 4:10 p.m. at the Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana.
