SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Eight innings of one-run ball from Charle Rosario and three RBI performances from Randy Santiesteban and Colin Willis led the Gary SouthShore RailCats to an 8-1 win over the Sioux City Explorers in the rubber game of the series on Sunday evening. Rosario (2-2) retired 13 in a row to start the game and allowed just six hits while not walking a single batter and striking out six.

For the third straight game vs. the Explorers, Gary jumped in front courtesy of a three-run first inning. Chase Harris pulled a single into left on the sixth pitch of the game before Reggie Wilson reached on a ground-rule double. Willis then belted a towering three-run homer to right, giving Gary a 3-0 lead. The homer was just Gary’s third of the season and the first from someone other than Frank Martinez.

The RailCats doubled their lead to 6-0 with three two-out runs in the third. Back-to-back RBI singles from Santiesteban and Wilfredo Gimenez made it 5-0 before a Sioux City throwing error allowed Gary to score their final run of the inning.

Gary (9-8) added two more runs in the fourth to go up 8-0. Kris Goodman drew a five-pitch walk to start the inning before C. Harris pulled a single into left field for his second hit. Two batters later, Martinez drew a walk before Santiesteban picked up two of his three RBIs with a two-run double down the left field line, plating both Goodman and Harris.

Sioux City (10-6) scored their only run in the seventh. With two outs and runners on first and second, Kyle Ogle brought home Nate Samson with a soft RBI single to second. The hit for Ogle was his fifth in his last two games.

Kramer Sneed (0-1) was charged with the loss in his season debut. The southpaw allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and five walks over seven innings.

The RailCats return home on Monday, June 5 for a seven-game homestand against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks and Sioux City Explorers. Monday’s game vs. Fargo-Moorhead starts at 7:10 p.m. and features a pair of southpaws. Gary’s Alex Gunn (1-0, 2.74) goes up against Fargo-Moorhead’s Cesilio Pimentel (3-0, 1.74) in the series opener.
