GARY, IND. — A three-run first inning and the six-out save from Felix Carvallo guided Gary to their third straight win and a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones on Friday night at U.S. Steel Yard in front 4,823. The RailCats’ win improved their record to 4-0 against KC and dropped the T-Bones out of first place in the South Division.

Will Savage recorded the RailCats first hit of the night with a two-out triple down the right field line all the way into the corner in the first. Colin Willis then drew a five-pitch walk before Andy De Jesus brought home Savage from third with an RBI bunt single up the third base line. Wilfredo Gimenez then loaded the bases with a four-pitch walk before Ray Jones delivered Gary’s (17-21) final runs with a two-run single to left, scoring both Willis and De Jesus.

Kansas City (20-19) got their first run of the series with two outs in the fourth. Mason Davis singled to right-center with two outs before Danny Mars moved Davis up to third with a two-out double down the right field line just past a diving Alex Crosby at first base. Dylan Tice then drove in Davis with an RBI infield single up the third base line.

The T-Bones cut the RailCats lead to 3-2 with the game’s final run in the seventh. Former MLB World Series Champion Daniel Nava homered off rookie reliever Nick Floyd to begin the frame. The homer was Nava’s first of the season and the first allowed by Floyd.

Justin Sinibaldi (1-2) recorded his first American Association win after allowing just one run over five innings. The right-handed yielded six hits, walked five and struck out one while throwing a season-high 116 pitches. Floyd (1) allowed one run over two innings in his first professional hold while Carvallo (2) retired six of the seven batters he faced in the save.

Former MLB pitcher Henry Owens (1-1) was charged with his first Independent Professional Baseball (IPBF) loss for KC. The southpaw allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out a season-high 10 over five innings.

Gary and Kansas City resume their series on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. The T-Bones send right-hander Erik Manoah Jr. to the mound in the middle game of the series against RailCats rookie right-hander Jumpei Akanuma (1-0, 2.53).

Saturday’s game is another AccessAbilities Signature Saturday and Gold and Glove Pediatric Cancer Charities Night. Saturday’s game also includes an Independence Day Jersey Auction, presented by Gold Glove Charities, and a Kickoff to the 4th of July Postgame Fireworks Show.
