ST. PAUL Minn. 10 hits and five innings of one-run ball from Alex Gunn wasn’t enough on Friday night as the RailCats fell to the St. Paul Saints, 2-1, for the second consecutive game. Chase Harris reached base a game-high four times and stole three bases while Anthony Cheky Jr., Wilfredo Gimenez and Andy DeJesus each recorded two hits in the loss.

Gary (0-2) took their first lead of the season in the top of the first, courtesy of Frank Martinez’s RBI fielder’s choice. C. Harris led off the game with an eight-pitch walk before stealing second. Cheky Jr. then reached on an infield single before Martinez brought home C. Harris for the first run of the night.

St. Paul (2-0) evened the game at 1-1 on Tony Caldwell’s RBI double off the right field wall in the second. Tony Thomas drew a one-out walk before Anthony Gallas recorded the Saints first hit of the night with a single to left. Caldwell followed with his second extra-base hit and third RBI of the series, plating Thomas from second

The Saints took the lead for good with another run in the bottom of the seventh. Tanner Vavra doubled off the right field wall in his season debut before Danny Oh advanced Vavra to third with a single to left. Breland Almadova brought home the go-ahead run with an RBI fielder’s choice, scoring Vavra from third.

Drasen Johnson (0-1) allowed one run over three innings in the defeat. Johnson struck out three and yielded two hits in his Independent Professional Baseball debut.

Ken Frosch (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief for St. Paul. Seth Rosin (2) recorded his second save in as many nights after striking out one in the bottom of the ninth.
