GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced on Wednesday the activation of infielder Randy Santiesteban and have removed left-handed reliever Darrell Thompson from the postseason roster. The RailCats also moved right-handed pitcher Christian Herstine from the inactive list to the disabled list.  

Santiesteban, 25, was placed on the disabled list on August 20th before moving to the inactive list on August 22nd. Santiesteban hit .257 with two home runs and 25 RBIs in 67 games during the regular season. The Peru State College alum had solidified his position as the cleanup hitter for the ballclub prior to his injury as he reached base in his last 17 games. He also recorded five hits in the last three games he had appeared in.

Herstine, 24, pitched four innings in three appearances in late May and early June striking out five during that span. In 2016, he had a 1.04 ERA in 8.2 innings with the RailCats. The Beaver, Pa., native had his contract purchased by the New York Yankees in July of 2016, but never pitcher for any of their affiliates.  

Thompson, 23, recorded a 1.68 ERA in 5.1 innings for the RailCats in August while striking out five in two total appearances. Before pitching for Gary, the southpaw pitched for the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League over the last two seasons.

The Gary SouthShore RailCats open the American Association Semifinals at home against the Wichita Wingnuts on Wednesday, September 6th at 7:10 p.m. Right-handed starter Ayrton Costa (2-4, 6.47 ERA) gets the ball for Gary in game one and will oppose fellow righty Danny Gutierrez (1-1, 1.69).
