GARY, IND. The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the signing of LHP Darrell Thompson on Friday. In a corresponding move, the RailCats placed RHP Zach Airing on waivers.

On Saturday, the RailCats announced the activation of outfielder Reggie Wilson from the disabled list. RHP Carlos Pinales was placed on the disabled list to make room for Wilson.

Thompson, 23, was a member of the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League in 2016, where he had a record of 2-0 and a 2.84 ERA in four outings. He also struck out 16 batters in 19 innings of work. Prior to Roswell, Thompson pitched at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

Wilson, 24, was placed on the disabled list on Tuesday (retroactive August 16). He leads the team with 49 walks on the season in 73 games this season. The former Philadelphia Phillies draftee is second on the team with 14 steals. His .293 batting average in the month of July placed him third among all RailCats hitters with 10 or more games played. Wilson has 10 extra base hits, 16 RBI, and a .355 on-base percentage.

Pinales, 25, is in his second season with the RailCats. This season Pinales is 0-1 with a 4.25 ERA. He has appeared in 20 games and has struck out 15 batters in 29.2 innings of work. In 2016, Pinales most notably had an impressive 7.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Aring, 22, made two appearances with the RailCats since being signed before Sunday’s game. He had no record, allowing two earned runs and struck out four in four total innings of work. He pitched collegiately at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. The Chicago Heights, Illinois native had the unique opportunity to start the final home game in St. Joseph’s College baseball history as the program became defunct after the 2017 season.

Gary resumes their three-game series vs. Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. Alex Gunn (7-5, 3.54) makes his league-high-tying 23rd start of the season for the RailCats while the T-Bones counter with southpaw Billy Waltrip (1-6, 6.75) in the series finale.

Sunday’s game features Pre-Game Autographs, a Pre-Game Catch, Kids Run the Bases and a Team Card Set Giveaway. The first 1,000 fans receive a 2017 team card set and can receive autographs from the RailCats players right when gates open. Remember to bring a ball and glove for your chance to play catch on the field before the game and stick around afterward as kids can run the bases!
