GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the acquiring of right-handed pitcher Daniel Minor, four players to be named later and cash considerations from the Winnipeg Goldeyes in exchange for veteran starter Charle Rosario on Thursday afternoon.
"Trading players is never easy; and even more so when it's someone like Charle, who's meant so much to the RailCats organization,” said field manager Greg Tagert.” “Charle’s an outstanding pitcher and an even better person. Not only does this deal give us several potential prospects for the future, we also acquire a proven pitcher in Daniel Minor, who can help us down the stretch in our quest for a post-season berth."
Minor finished without a record and a 5.23 ERA in 21 relief appearances for the Goldeyes and held opponents to a .253 opponents batting average. The 26-year-old also struck out 24 batters in 20.2 innings while walking just four. Minor began his professional baseball career in 2012 after getting drafted by the Houston Astros in the ninth round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Minor spent parts of four seasons in the Astros minor league system, reaching as high as Double-A.
Rosario was named to the American Association All-Star team for the second consecutive season this year and is 8-5 with a 3.65 ERA in a league-high-tying 19 starts. Rosario is also second in the AA in innings pitched (118.1) and tied for third in the league with 89 strikeouts.
Rosario set a single-season franchise record with 155.1 innings pitched in 2015 and is second in franchise history in career wins (31), innings pitched (410.2), games (65), games started (65) and strikeouts (298).
“It’s always hard to see a player of Charle’s caliber move on,” said general manager Brian Lyter. “Charle’s been a terrific teammate, person and member of the Northwest Indiana community. We wish Charle nothing but the best with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.”
