GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the re-signing of left-handed pitcher Andy Roberts before Thursday’s series opener against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Roberts went 4-1 with three saves and a 3.31 ERA in 23 games in 2016.
Roberts is currently one of three players from the 2015 team on the RailCats active roster after going 2-8 with three saves and a 4.78 ERA in his first season with Gary. Roberts logged a career-high 86.2 innings and appeared in 21 games (13 starts) in ’15.
Gary and Winnipeg begin their four-game series on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. Thursday’s series opener vs. the reigning champion Goldeyes is Strike Out Stroke Night, courtesy of Methodist Hospitals. RailCats right-hander Ayrton Costa (1-1, 6.54) opposes All-Star left-hander Kevin McGovern (8-2, 2.49) in the opening game of the series.
Thursday’s game also features a Food Truck Rally and is another Gerber and Thirsty Thursday.
