RailCats sign Wilson to first pro contract

GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jamal Wilson on Saturday afternoon and have placed right-handed pitcher Ryan Fritze on waivers. The RailCats also announced infielder Alex Crosby has been moved from the disabled list to the inactive list retroactive to June 24th.


Wilson went 10-1 with a 3.69 ERA in 16 games (11 starts) as a senior in 2017 at Southeastern (Fla.) University. The right-hander finished second on the team with 104 strikeouts in 75.2 innings. Wilson held opponents to a .244 batting average and allowed just 75 hits and 20 walks.


Fritze went 5-1 with one save and a 7.32 ERA in 18 relief outings. The Valparaiso University alum became the first RailCats pitcher to record two wins and a save in his first professional baseball appearances. 


Crosby batted .270 with a home runs and 10 RBIs before being placed on the disabled list. Before being placed on the disabled list, Crosby reached base in a season-high 17 consecutive games.


Gary continues their seven-game homestand on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. vs. the reigning American Association Champion Winnipeg Goldeyes. Southpaw Braulio Torres-Perez (4-2, 4.82) duels right-hander Zach Nuding (2-5, 6.54) in game three of the series.   


Saturday’s game features a fanny pack giveaway and a pre-game autographs session. The first 1,000 fans get a fanny pack courtesy of Fifth Third Bank, which will have either a $5 or $10 concession voucher in it. Make sure you're here when gates open at 5 p.m. as the team will be on the concourse for Pre-Game Autographs!
