Long Island Fighters

Matt Serra



Long Island native and the former UFC Welterweight Champion is a retired mixed martial arts fighter who trains some of the best fighters in the world. Teaming up with Ray Longo for Serra-Longo Fight Team, Serra trains notables such as Chris Weidman, Al Iaquinta and Aljamin Sterling.

The former Ultimate Fighter Welterweight Tournament winner began practicing MMA in his 20’s. He mastered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and obtained a black belt in May, 2000. His accolades include bouts with UFC notables, Matt Hughes and BJ Penn, as well as Georges St-Pierre.  The 42-year-old’s biggest accomplishment in mixed martial arts came at UFC 69 where he defeated GSP in a Knockout of the Night Award, while capturing the welterweight belt.

Serra, good friends with UFC President Dana White, can be seen training prospects and former UFC champions out of his gym on Long Island and also found on UFC’s exclusive show  “Dana White: Lookin’ For A Fight.” Serra has also recently teamed up with comedian Jim Norton in “UFC Unfiltered”, in a weekly podcast.
