This week, three-year veteran defenseman JC Dubecky became the second Rhino this season to sign with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos.
Dubecky, a Regina, Saskatchewan native, has been one of the Rhinos’ most consistent and lauded defensemen over the past three seasons. In his first year on the roster, the eighteen-year-old posted 24 points, yet more impressively, in his sophomore season, he more than tripled that number, earning 76 points and his first Thorne Cup Championship. He followed up with another great year during the 2018-19 season, tallying 67 points and another championship to end his junior career.
In addition to his captaincy helping lead the Rhinos to back to back Championships, Dubecky’s individual accomplishments are numerous. He was selected to the All Thorne Cup Team and named the Rhinos’ top defenseman for the past two seasons. He was the Western States Hockey League’s Top Scoring Defenseman during the 2017-18 season and is currently the franchise’s highest scoring defenseman. He also ranks fourth in Franchise All-Time Points, second in Franchise All-Time Assists, and third in Franchise All-Times Games Played.
Following the steps of Simon Hobbis, Drake Cartwright, and Ty Erramouspe, Dubecky will be the fourth Rhino in the past three seasons to sign with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos under UCO Assistant Coach and former Rhino captain and native El Pasoan Michael Rivera.
