The Rhinos are pleased to announce the hiring of Chris Coury, the franchise's new Midwest Scout.
Coury has been coaching at the U18 AAA level in Detroit for 52 years. He has coached in Michigan’s Belle Tire program for 16 years and previously, he spent 27 years coaching in the Little Caesar's program. Most notably, Coury worked as a full-time scout for the Detroit Red Wings for 12 years.
During his tenure, he has coached players who have been drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, and Edmonton Oilers. Several of his players have also signed with Division I teams at universities including Yale, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Notre Dame. Countless others have played for Division III and club programs.
Rhino Head Coach Cory Herman believes that Coury’s experience will be a valuable addition to the organization. “Chris knows the kind of player we are looking for: hardworking and physical. With his many years of experience, he will bring in players that will help us maintain and even improve our high level of competition.”
Despite being the Rhinos’ newest staff member, Coury is already prepared to play a role in the franchise’s expansion by securing new talent. "Coming to work for the El Paso Rhinos is an exciting chance to work for a well-run, first class operation! I look forward to visiting in the near future!"
