Rhinos keep adding skill and depth

Tyler Benson

6’2
170
Shot: R
Defenseman
Birth year: ‘90
Hometown: Crystal Lake, Illinois
Last team played for: Prairie Ridge High School

Tyler Benson was spotted by Trevor Converse at the Topeka Roadrunners Chicago camp.
A well rounded defenseman Tyler is comfortable playing at home but he’s not shy about filling the lane to join the rush.

“I would say I’m a defensive defenseman, but I like to move the puck.
Quick passes, touch passes, I definitely will jump into the play.”

Tyler amassed 15 Goals 10 assists 25 points in a 50 games season last year that saw his team go 40-10 good enough for second in the league.

“I made up my mind to go to El Paso after talking to some of the vets, they just loved it, it feels like a really good atmosphere and they move guys on and that’s a big draw.”

“Goals? I want to have fun, win, and put some weight on!” (laughs)

Tyler will be expected to help shore up a blue line that is returning just 1 veteran.

“Tyler is a mature, dependable d-man who can move the puck, we like his composure with the puck and his gap control. His 1on1 play is solid.”

David Fegler

6’
195
Shot: R
Forward
Birth year: ‘90
Hometown: Mount Airy, Maryland
Last team played for: Washington Jr. Nationals (AJHL)

David was brought in to fill the Rhinos need for a power forward.

“I’m aggressive, and I don’t mind getting my nose dirty”.

David comes to El Paso via the same path as 2 former Rhinos, Corey Jendras, and Grady Little.
Starting his Junior career, as often happens, he had unfavorable beginnings to his rookie season.

“It’s hard to get playing time when you’re a rookie, but as the season went on, I worked hard and eventually was able to take a regular shift and it ended up being a solid year.”

Good speed, a hard shot, finishes his checks, and is a tireless worker, are what David brings to the ice every day.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jendras, he is working towards signing with a NAHL, USHL or D-1 team, but the first step is El Paso.

“In my exit meeting Coach (Scott) Langer said I should speak with Trevor (Converse) and to consider El Paso as an option.”

Fegler will provide speed, skill depth, and a physical presence, that the Rhinos will need for the WSHL road ahead.

“David is pure energy with skill, plus he gets involved physically. His compete level is extremely high along with his awareness of playing with out the puck.”
-Trevor Converse Director of Scouting and Player Personnel
