Crestwood, IL Windy City ThunderBolts outfielder Mike Coles had his 25-game hitting streak snapped on Wednesday, June 20 after an 0-for-4 night. Coles started his streak on Opening Night and got a hit in every game in which he had a plate appearance until Wednesday.
The Frontier League single season record is 30 games set by Mike Robertson for River City in 2000. Peanut Williams established the ThunderBolts franchise record in 2004 with a 28-game streak. Kevin Holt hit in 35 consecutive games over two seasons in 1996-97 for Johnstown and Richmond.
Coles hit .410 during his streak and had 13 multi-hit games. He is currently third in the Frontier League with a .394 average. During the 25 games, Coles had 41 hits, 9 doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI, and 22 runs scored.
The 25-game hitting streak shatters Coles previous career high. His best streak coming into the season was five games in a row for the Gary SouthShore RailCats last July.
Coles and the ThunderBolts look to wrap up their series against Florence with a sweep on Thursday night and then take on Chillicothe for a three games series this weekend.
