Biography:
2016 (Freshman) •Was second on the team in relief appearances (20). •Finished the season with an 0-2 record and a 5.16 ERA over 22.2 innings pitched. •Made his collegiate debut on opening night at #14 Florida State (Feb. 19)... Allowed zero earned runs over two innings of relief. •Strung together four consecutive scoreless relief appearances from Feb. 21 - March 20, allowing just three hits over a combined five innings against Florida State (Feb. 21), Winthrop (March 4), Indiana State (March 11) and Towson (March 20). •Made his first career start at Penn State (March 23). •Had back-to-back scoreless relief appearances at George Mason (March 26-27), striking out one in 0.2 innings each time. •Tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and just two hits allowed in a pair of appearances against VCU (April 8-10). •Thres an inning of scoreless relief with two strikeouts against Davidson at the Atlantic 10 Championship (May 27). High School •Was a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams at Livingston High School. •Served as team captain in both football and baseball. •Recorded 63 strikeouts opposite just 11 walks in 53 innings pitched as a junior. •Was selected to play for the Essex County Underclassman All-Star Team. •Earned All-Conference and All-County honors in 2014. •Was an All-Conference selection in football in both 2013 and 2014. •Was the conference and county leader in punting average and led his team in total receiving yards and touchdowns as a senior. •Kicked a 42-yard game-winning field goal as time expired his junior year. •Was an honor roll student and volunteer umpire for his local little league. Personal •Born May 27, 1997. •Son of Laura and John Silvestri… Has five siblings - John, Stephen, Johanna, Paul and Leah; John played baseball at Monclair State from 2011-14 while Stephen played baseball at UPenn from2012-15. •Favorite athlete is Clayton Kershaw. •Favorite teams are the New York Yankees, Giants, Rangers and Knicks. •Chose to attend URI over Albany, Binghamton and Stony Brook. •Selected Rhode Island because of its great academic programs, beautiful campus and successful baseball program. •Majoring in Environmental Science with future career plans of becoming a teacher.
