Navigators Breeze Through Bravehearts

Lynn, MA- Worcester began their road trip taking on the North Shore Navigtors at Fraser Field, but could not leave with a win. The Navigators were able to defeat the Bravehearts 5-3 on Thursday night.

The Bravehearts, as they have many times before, got the scoring going early. After the first two batters of the game were retired, North Shore starting pitcher Garret Keough walked four consecutive batters, with the fourth being Jon Hansen to bring in Michael Dellicarri for the first run of the game.

In the fourth inning, Worcester was able to add another run. Alex Gionis was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a walk by Mariano Ricciardi and then advanced to third on a fielders choice off the bat of John Thrasher. Gionis then scored on a wild pitch to put Worcester up 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Navs struck for four runs. J.P. Knight singled and then stole second to start the threat. George Sutherland then singled to score Knight to cut the lead in half. After advancing to second base on a Jeff Mejia single, Joey Murphy then singled in Sutherland to tie the game. With runners at the corners, Worcester pitcher Kyle Angel attempted a pick-off move to first base which was overthrown allowing Mejia to score and the Navs to take the lead. After taking third on the wild pick-off attempt, Murphy then scored on a throw down to second attempting to catch Michael Wynne stealing to increase the lead to 4-2.

After a lead-off triple by Alex Gionis, the Bravehearts threatened by loading the bases in the sixth. The Navigators were able to work out of a jam and only allow one run as Michael Dellicarri grounded to second to score Gionis.

As soon as Worcester cut the lead to one, North Shore got the run right back. Back-to-back singles by George Sutherland and Elias Verinos put runners on first and second with one out. After a fielders choice allowed runners to advance, Sutherland then scored on a passed ball giving North Shore a 5-3 lead.

For North Shore, Garret Keough went four innings allowing one hit, two runs and seven walks in the start. For Worcester, Kyle Angel went four innings giving up 5 hits, 4 runs (2 earned) while getting credited with the loss. Zach Begin gets credited with a save finishing off the final 3 innings of the game holding Worcester scoreless.

The Bravehearts continue their road trip tomorrow as they head to Martha’s Vineyard to take on the Sharks. First pitch will be at 6:30 pm.
