(May 20, 2017 – Sugar Land, TX): The York Revolution made it back-to-back wins with a 6-5 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters in Friday night’s series opener at Constellation Field.
The Revs grabbed an early lead in the third on a two-out RBI double to deep right-center by Isaias Tejeda, plating Jose Constanza who had singled earlier in the inning.
Sugar Land forged ahead for a brief lead in the bottom of the third, scoring on a Travis Scott RBI double and a Kevin Ahrens sac fly for a 2-1 edge.
The Revs responded in a big way, batting around to plate four runs on five hits in the fourth. It was their biggest inning since a five-run first inning in the home opener on April 28.
The game-breaking inning started with a Carlos Triunfel leadoff walk and a Bryan Pounds single. Travis Witherspoon then rapped an RBI single to center, tying the game at 2-2. Derrick Robinson reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Constanza gave York the lead on a one-out RBI single to left, and Ryan Dent drove in another run by way of a fielder’s choice. Tejeda then reached on an infield single, driving in his second run of the night to give York a 5-2 advantage.
The Revs struck with two outs in the fifth to add one more, as Witherspoon singled to left and sprinted the whole way from first to score on Robinson’s double to the alley in left-center.
York starter Logan Williamson (1-2) earned the win, limiting the Skeeters to just two runs on two hits in five innings. He overcame five walks, and retired eight of his final nine batters faced.
Hawtin Buchanan came up huge in the sixth, leaving the bases loaded. Pinch-hitter Andy Wilkins made a bid at a game-tying grand slam but pulled it foul before lining out to end the inning.
Manny Corpas and Jarret Martin followed with scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth.
Brad Allen set down the first two hitters quickly in the ninth before a pair of walks led to a Jeremy Barfield three-run homer off the top of the left field fence. It snapped an eight-appearance scoreless streak for Allen who had previously allowed just one run, but with the lead cut to one, the York closer retired Ahrens on a pop out to first base to secure the win.
Witherspoon led York, going 3-for-5 at the plate for his first three-hit game of the year. Tejeda drove in two runs for the second straight night, and extended his on-base streak to 16 consecutive games.
The Revs out-hit the Skeeters 11-6, and have now out-hit opponents 25-11 over the last two victories.
Curtis Partch (0-3, 5.53) faces Mitch Talbot (first appearance) in a seven-inning game at 1:05 p.m. ET on Saturday in the first of a day-night doubleheader. Frank Gailey (4-1, 1.86) squares off with Sean Gleason (1-0, 4.97) in the nightcap at 7:05 p.m. ET.
