REVS DENIED SWEEP

(July 14, 2019 - York, Pa.): The York Revolution were denied of a series sweep on Sunday afternoon, falling to the High Point Rockers 4-1 at PeoplesBank Park. Having already clinched a ninth consecutive series win, the Revs fall to 2-1 in the second half and will open a seven-game road trip at Somerset on Monday night.

York starter Duke von Schamann and former Rev Joe Van Meter were locked into one of the best pitching duels of the season through the early innings. Both right-handers retired the first nine men they faced with von Schamman striking out five and Van Meter recording four punch outs.

High Point scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth. After von Schamann retired Stephen Cardullo to make it ten in-a-row set down, Michael Russell slapped a double down the left field line to become the game's first base runner. Tyler Ladendorf popped out, but Quincy Latimore continued to be a thorn in the Revs side as he hit an RBI single up the middle to plate the run and give the Rockers a 1-0 lead.

After Van Meter stayed perfect through four innings, the Rockers tacked on a run in the top of the fifth courtesy of a Tyler Marincov solo home run to left that drove the lead to 2-0.

Carlos Franco slapped a ground-rule double to right center to break up the perfect game in the bottom of the fifth. Van Meter battled back to strand the Revs’ third baseman at second.

After a scoreless sixth, the Rockers added two runs in the top of the seventh on solo home runs from Latimore and Hector Gomez to double the lead to 4-0.

The lone bright spot for York's offense came in the bottom of the seventh when Isaias Tejeda launched a solo home run to left to cut the lead to 4-1. Tejeda has now recorded a home run in five straight games, a new franchise record.

After Cesar Cabral worked a scoreless top of the eighth for York, Trevor Frank recorded a scoreless inning of his own, keeping the score at 4-1 heading into the ninth.

Orleny Quiroz worked a scoreless top of the ninth to keep the deficit at three runs.

York led off the bottom of the inning with a walk by Tejeda, but High Point left-hander Alberto Baldonado retired the next three in order to give the Rockers a 4-1 win and prevent the sweep.

Notes: Tejeda has hit all six of his home runs over the last seven games. His five-game homer streak eclipses the previous record of four set by Chris Nowak (2012) and Eric Patterson (2013). Tejeda now has 16 extra-base hits over the last 20 games.  Franco (2-for-4) extends his current hitting streak to seven games.  Telvin Nash was held hitless, ending an eight-game streak.  York's five-game home winning streak is snapped as is a four-game winning streak head-to-head vs. High Point.  Revs righty Corey Walter (2-3, 4.78) starts Monday's opener at Somerset at 7:05 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK on YouTube beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
