(June 15, 2019 – Lancaster, Pa.): Telvin Nash broke the franchise’s all-time home run as the York Revolution stayed red hot, sweeping a day-night doubleheader with 4-3 and 6-4 victories over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Saturday at Clipper Magazine Stadium in a pair of seven-inning games. The Revs have won a season-high five straight and seven of their last eight, and will go for the road series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
York, fresh off of a 12-3 drubbing of Lancaster one night ago, continued its winning ways by pulling off a beautiful comeback victory over the Barnstormers in game one of the Saturday doubleheader.
Lancaster ace Buddy Bauman got the start for Lancaster and worked a 1-2-3 inning to begin his day. Ian Thomas took the mound for York and responded with a scoreless inning of his own, leaving the bases loaded.
The Revs got on the board in the bottom of the second. Isaias Tejeda led off the inning with a single and Nash followed by walking to give the Revs two men on with no outs. After Carlos Franco singled to load the bases, J.P. Sportman grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to give York a 1-0 lead.
Thomas worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the second inning to hold the York lead.
Baumann rebounded from his second inning to hold York without a run in the top of the third.
Caleb Gindl gave Lancaster their first lead of the series in the bottom of the third. After Dan Gamache drew a one-out walk, Gindl roped a home run over the short wall in right field to give Lancaster a 2-1 lead.
Nash stepped into the box to start the fourth inning and drove a Bauman fastball over the wall in right field, breaking Andres Perez’ record for career home runs in York Revolution history and tying the game at 2-2 with his 67th all-time in a York uniform.
"It's special," said Nash after the doubleheader. "I couldn't do it without my teammates, my coaching staff, and my family. It's a good moment, but right now we just want to continue to win and play well, and build toward a championship."
Lancaster reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Gamache drove a ball to deep center for a sacfrifice fly to give the Barnstormers a 3-2 lead. That greeted reliever Rob Carson who used that to begin a stretch of retiring all eight batters faced in his best outing of the season.
After Baumann worked a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fift, Carson worked a perfect frame to answer and keep the score at 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, Nash slammed his second home run of the game to deep left-center, tying the game at 3-3.
Carson (2-0) twirled yet another perfect frame in the bottom of the sixth to keep things deadlocked.
With the game tied at 3-3, Angelys Nina blasted a leadoff home run over the lawn in left field to give York a 4-3 advantage in dramatic fashion.
Julio Perez was called upon to finish game one. Darian Sandford greeted the righty with a base hit and Gamache walked to immediately put the pressure on. A Gindly fly out advanced both runners, and with the infield in, Perez induced a sharp grounder to Nina at second off the bat of Joe Terdoslavich. Nina threw home to nail Sandford at the plate, and Perez retired K.C. Hobson on a fly out to center to end the thrilling victory.
Matt Marksberry was called upon to make the spot start for Lancaster in the nightcap. For the third time this week, York scored at least four runs in the first inning, sending ten batters to the plate in a five-run frame. After Maksberry retired the first two batters of the inning, Nash walked to ignite the offense. Franco followed by singling to give the Revs two two-out baserunners. The next batter, Welington Dotel, blasted a three-run home run to left-center to give York an early 3-0 lead. Sportman kept the offense going, doubling into the gap in left-center field to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Nina followed with an RBI bloop single into right to plate Sportman and move the lead to 4-0. Ryan Dent walked and Justin Trapp was hit by a pitch to load the bases, all coming with two outs. With James Skelton at the plate, Marksburry sailed a wild pitch by catcher Anderson De La Rosa, allowing Nina to score and thrust the lead to 5-0.
Phil Walby started his second career game for York. Michael Martinez accounted for the only run in the first as he lined a home run to right cutting the lead to 5-1.
Walby and Marksberry both worked scoreless second frames to keep the score at 5-1.
The Revs tacked on an extra run in the top of the third off Lancaster reliever Garrett Granitz. Nina led off the inning with a walk. After Granitz rebounded to retire the next two York hitters, Skelton singled to keep the inning alive and put runners on first and second. Henry Castillo drilled a single to right to score Nina and move the lead to 6-1.
Lancaster would answer by plating a pair of runs off of Walby in the third. With runners on first and second, Martinez lined a ball that took a vicious hop over the shoulder of Nash at first and rolled to the right field corner. Golson scored on the play and Sanford reached third. The next batter, Gamache hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3 after three.
Walby recovered nicely from the tough third as he worked a 1-2-3 inning to end his day.
After the Revs were held scoreless in the top of the fifth, Jameson McGrane entered to game to hold the lead. McGrane was sensational in two innings of work, retiring all six batters he faced while striking out five.
After not adding insurance in the top of the seventh, the Revs headed to the final frame with the 6-3 lead.
Pat Young started the ninth, looking to notch his fifth save of the season. Young struggled with his command, loading the bases with no one out. Josh Judy was called upon to work out of the jam and struck out Golson to record out number one. “The Judge” got pinch-hitter Josh Bell to pop out to third for the second out. After walking in a run to cut the lead to 6-4, Judy forced Martinez to ground out to Nash to end the game and give York their fifth straight win.

Notes: Perez had stood as the Revs’ all-time home run leader since July 3, 2016 until Nash tied the mark with a three-homer game against High Point on Monday; his multi-homer game was his second of the week and fifth of his Revs career, tying Chad Tracy for second-most all-time, trailing only Chris Nowak who did it seven times. Nash’s new record now stands at 68 home runs. Carson and McGrane were each perfect in their respective outings; both set season highs for innings and earned the win. Carson’s eight straight batters retired set a Revs season best for a reliever while McGrane’s five strike outs tied a season best for a reliever and his four consecutive strike outs tied a team record for a reliever set five times previously, most recently by Michael Click last August. McGrane now holds scoreless streaks of 11 outings and 10.1 innings, season bests for a Revs reliever. The Revs played errorless ball in both games and have now been error free in four consecutive contests. The five-game winning streak is the Revs’ longest since a six-gamer last September. The doubleheader sweep is the fifth on the road in Revs history and first since May 7, 2016 at Southern Maryland. It is the Revs’ first ever doubleheader sweep in Lancaster in eight tries. It is the fourth doubleheader sweep all-time against the Barnstormers (first since 2014); two occurred in York while the other was split between both ballparks. The Revs have outscored opponents 17-1 in the first inning over the last eight games and 39-17 for the season, a mark that leads the league. The five-run first inning in game two on Saturday marked the third time in the past eight games the Revs have scored four or more in the first (five twice). Sportman’s 14-game hitting streak is the Revs’ longest in just over a calendar year and one shy of the league’s longest streak this season; it is the league’s longest active currently. Franco is 8-for-11 in the series and has reached base safely 12 out of 15 times; he is now 11-for-19 in five games to begin his York career. Tejeda and Melky Mesa were given the second game off after starting each of the first 50 games this season. Nina’s home run was his second of the season and both have either tied or given the Revs the lead in the late innings. The Revs will go for their first ever four-game road sweep and their first sweep of the Barnstormers since May 5-7, 2015 (at Lancaster) in Sunday’s series finale at 1 p.m. York righty Dan Minor (3-4, 5.06) faces Lancaster lefty John Anderson (4-2, 4.62).
