(May 26, 2019 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution erased a three-run deficit in the seventh inning, but fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-5 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs close a 5-2 homestand and will open a three-day road series at New Britain on Tuesday night.
York starter Duke von Schamann was impressive early in his Revolution debut, retiring all six batters on four strike outs over the first two innings and setting down nine of ten hitters through the first three innings.
The Barnstormers took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth inning. After Dan Gamache reached base on an error, Caleb Gindl doubled to left-center to give Lancaster runners on second and third with no outs. Joe Terdoslavich hit a sacrifice fly to left, plating Gamache and giving the ‘Stormers a 1-0 lead. K.C. Hobson followed by doubling to deep left-center center, scoring Gindl and moving the lead to 2-0. Von Schamann struck out Josh Bell to record the second out of the inning but Anderson De La Rosa hit the third Lancaster double of the inning on a liner down the left field line, scoring Hobson and extending the Lancaster lead to 3-0. Only one of the runs was earned.
The Revs answered with a run in their half of the fourth inning in historic fashion. With one out in the inning, Telvin Nash drove a John Anderson fastball deep over the wall in left-center field for his 39th career home run at PeoplesBank Park, eclipsing Andres Perez’ record for most all time. The bombcut the York deficit to 3-1.
Jay Miller, who replaced von Schamann with two outs in the third, was excellent in the fifth and sixth innings, holding Lancaster scoreless while recording three strikeouts.
Anderson kept his impressive day going as well as he tossed a scoreless fifth with help of a double play for the third consecutive inning, then struck out the side in order in the sixth.
Lancaster tacked on a run in the top of the seventh on a swinging bunt RBI single off the bat of Gamache to make it 4-1.
York proceeded to tie the game in its half of the frame. Nash led off the inning by doubling off the wall in right to set the table. After Anderson bounced back to get Isaias Tejeda to fly out to left, Welington Dotel dropped a bloop single into right field to give the Revs runners at the corners with one out and ending Anderson’s day.
Reliever Garrett Granitz began his day by walking Nate Coronado to load the bases with one away. Granitz proceeded to walk Ryan Dent as well, forcing in a run and cutting the margin to 4-2. Justin Trapp became the third consecutive batter walked by Granitz, forcing in yet another run as the Revs deficit shrunk to 4-3. Fellow righty Alejandro Chacin entered to try to escape the bases loaded jam. The first batter he faced, J.P. Sportman, smashed a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to score Coronado and tie the game at 4-4.
Julio Perez worked around a walk and a single to record a scoreless top of the eighth inning out of the York bullpen.
Chacin responded with a scoreless bottom half on the eighth.
Rob Carson was called upon to pitch the ninth and stranded a leadoff double by sitting down the next three Barnstormers he faced.
Matt Marksberry forced the game into extra innings by working a clean bottom of the ninth for Lancaster
Lancaster took the lead in the top of the tenth. With Hobson the runner starting on second base, Bell singled to left moving Hobson to third and giving the Barnstormers runners on the corners with no one out. Hobson crossed home on a wild pitch from Jarrett Martin to give Lancaster a 5-4 lead. Martin bounced back to record a strike out of Devon Torrence, but with Bell at third, Darian Sandford drove a sacrifice fly to right field for an insurance run to make it 6-4.
The Revs did score their runner from second in the bottom of the tenth as Melky Mesa advanced Henry Castillo on a ground out, setting him up to score on a passed ball, but Lancaster closer Cody Eppley retired Nate Coronado on a pop out with two men on for the final out of the game to record the save and win the series for the Barnstormers.

Notes: Nash’s home run is the 61st of his Revs career, five shy of Perez’ franchise record of 66. He has now homered in back-to-back games three times this season, all in the last two weeks, as he has hit six home runs in his last 14 games. His eight home runs on the season put him in a three-way tie for the league lead. York falls to 1-3 in extra innings while Lancaster improves to 1-2. Four of York’s six runs allowed were unearned. Revs pitchers tallied a 2.39 ERA on the homestand. Revs pitchers struck out 12 for the third time in five games and 10 or more for the fourth time in five games. Mesa (1-for-5) extended his hitting streak to a Revs season-best 11 consecutive games. The Revs completed a stretch of 14 straight division battles with a 7-7 record and will now play their next 19 against the Liberty Division. Sunday wrapped up a stretch of 27 consecutive days with a scheduled game. Monday’s off-day is the Revs’ first scheduled day off since April 29. Tuesday begins a stretch of 23 games in the next 20 days. von Schamann walked none and struck out five; Revs starting pitchers have walked just 2.1 batters per nine innings on the season. Von Schamann became the third consecutive Revs starter to be perfect through the first two innings and the ninth straight Revs starter to hold the opposition scoreless through two innings.
