(September 1, 2018) -- The York Revolution continued to push their way back into the Atlantic League's playoff picture, edging out a dramatic 3-2 win over the Long Island Ducks on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs have taken the first two games of their series with the Ducks and are a season-high six games over .500 at 59-53, going for a second consecutive home series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the top of the third off Revs starter Troy Terzi to take a 2-0 lead. The first run scored on a balk by Terzi and the second run came home on Taylor Ard’s two-out RBI double to left.
The Revs answered right away in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. Ryan Dent launched a leadoff solo homer over the Arch Nemesis in left, his 14th of the season and second in as many days, off Ducks starter Jake Fisher.
Terzi gave up two runs on six hits in five and two-thirds innings before giving way to Michael Click out of the bullpen. Click struck out Miles Williams looking to end the sixth and strand a Ducks’ insurance run on third base, keeping the game at 2-1.
The Revs tied the game in the sixth when Alonzo Harris doubled and scored from third on Melky Mesa’s two-out RBI single to left off Fisher. After a Telvin Nash single to set up first and second with two outs, Fisher was removed from the game. Facing reliever Jose Cuas, Isaias Tejeda gave the Revs a 3-2 lead on an RBI double into left field on a high chopper over Ducks third baseman Cody Puckett to score Mesa.
Click stayed in the game after the Revs took the lead and rolled a 4-6-3 double play to end a scoreless top of the seventh.
Ricardo Gomez came on for the eighth and got Lew Ford to hit into a 6-4-3 double play before striking out Ard to end the inning, preserving the Revs’ 3-2 lead.
Dustin Richardson struck out the side and stranded the tying run on second in a scoreless ninth to close out the one-run win and pick up his first save of the season.
Click (1-0) earned his first win of the season after tossing a scoreless inning and one-third while Fisher (6-7) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in five and two-thirds innings.
Notes: The Revs have won seven of their last eight games, nine of 11, and 11 of 15. They’ve also won five straight home games for the first time this season. York is 17-9 overall since August 4. Mesa has 25 two-out RBIs on the season after tying the game with an RBI single in the sixth inning. The Revs’ pitching staff’s scoreless-inning streak ended at 20.0 innings when the Ducks scored in the third, but Revs pitchers have allowed just two runs over their last 27 innings (three games), good for a 0.67 team ERA in that span. The Revs pull within half a game of the Ducks in the overall standings for a potential wild card spot. Long Island's division lead shrinks to one game over Somerset, as a Somerset second half title would make that wild card berth available.
