REVS POUND STORMERS

(August 20, 2018) -- The York Revolution pounded out 16 hits on their way to a convincing 11-4 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday night at PeoplesBank Park in the opener of a four-game series and seven-game homestand. The Revs go back over .500 on the season at 51-50 and move to 18-18 in the second half.

Melky Mesa smoked an RBI single off the Arch Nemesis to give the Revs an early 1-0 lead off Barnstormers starter Joe Gardner in the first.

The Barnstormers came right back in the top of the second, scoring two runs off Revs starter Robert Carson to take a 2-1 lead. The first run scored on a wild pitch and the second came home on a 6-4-3 double play turned by the Revs.

Lancaster added another run in the third on Jimmy Paredes’ solo home run over the wall in left to make it a 3-1 game.

Carson left after just three innings because of an apparent injury, although he returned to the dugout later in the game. Carson gave up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Down two runs, the Revs responded in a big way as the bats got going in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs while sending 11 batters to the plate.

Alonzo Harris scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch and Telvin Nash tied the game with an RBI single to left. Welington Dotel followed with a go-ahead two-run home run to left-center, his seventh homer of the season, to put the Revs up 5-3. Harris kept the rally going with a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle off reliever Garrett Granitz. Both runs were inherited runners and charged to Gardner, as the Revs took a 7-3 lead into the fourth inning.

Jailen Peguero and James Pugliese, who struck out four batters, each threw two scoreless innings in relief of Carson.

The Revs tacked on another run in the sixth when Casilla scored on a wild pitch. Then in the seventh, Harris stayed hot at the plate and brought home a run with an RBI single to right field to make it a 9-3 game.

The Barnstormers scored another run on a wild pitch with two outs in the eighth to get within five runs at 9-4, but that was as close as they would get.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dent hit a bases-loaded RBI infield single and another run scored on a wild pitch to give the Revs an 11-4 lead.

Junior Rincon retired the Barnstormers in order in the ninth to finish off the win.

Pugliese (3-1) earned the win while Gardner (4-9) suffered the loss.

Notes: The Revs had their most hits in a game since June 28 when they collected 19 in a road win over Long Island, and scored their most runs in a game since they put up 16 in a home win against Long Island on July 13. All nine Revs starters reached base safely, eight of the nine had at least one hit, and six of the nine had multiple hits, including Harris and Dent who posted three each. Mesa has 20 RBIs in his last 15 games. Five runs scored on wild pitches in the game - three for the Revs and two for the Barnstormers. Pugliese has not allowed a run over his last six outings (9.0 IP) with 12 Ks and only three hits and two walks allowed in that span.

Up Next: The Revs and Barnstormers will play Game 2 of their four-game series on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. RHP Troy Terzi (0-0, 0.00) gets the ball for York and will be opposed by LHP Nate Reed (10-3, 3.44) for Lancaster. It is a WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Sluggers Tuesday. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
