REVS BLAST PAST DUCKS

(August 9, 2018) - The York Revolution belted three home runs and Mitch Atkins took over the league lead in victories as the Revs defeated the Long Island Ducks, 7-3 in the opener of a four-game series in front of 4,812 fans at Bethpage Ballpark on Thursday night.

Long Island scored the game's first run on a sac fly by Taylor Ard in the bottom of the first, pushing an unearned run across.

York answered right away as Telvin Nash launched a towering opposite field home run down the right field line, tying the game at 1-1 on his fifth in seven games since returning to York.

Long Island again edged in front on a Dan Lyons sac fly in the bottom of the second, making it 2-1.

York went in front for good with three runs in the fourth.  Alexi Casilla worked a leadoff walk from Ducks starter John Brownell, and Melky Mesa capitalized by drilling a two-run homer to left-center, taking sole possession of the team lead with his 12th of the year as the Revs went ahead 3-2. Luis Cruz added a two-out RBI single to right for a 4-2 lead.

Jordany Valdespin connected on a solo homer to right in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the Revs' lead to 4-3.

York answered right away as Nash worked a one-out walk in the sixth, moved to second with two outs on a wild pitch, and scored on a Jared Mitchell base hit to right-center, increasing the lead to 5-3.

The Revs put the game away offensively with two more runs in the ninth. Mitchell led off the inning with an infield single, stole second, and took third on a throwing error by catcher Ramon Cabrera. With the infield in, Cruz worked a full count before nailing a two-run homer to left-center, extending the lead to 7-3 on his third of the season.

Grant Sides struck out the side, allowing just a one-out double to Cabrera in the bottom of the ninth.

Atkins (9-4) worked seven innings in the win, limiting the Ducks to three runs (two earned) on five hits with seven strike outs and just two walks. He is the league's first to nine victories on the season, and is now 4-0 in four starts against the Ducks.

Long Island starter John Brownell (8-9) suffered the loss, working into the ninth inning on 129 pitches as he was charged with all seven runs.

York lefty Robert Carson (7-5, 3.18) faces Ducks southpaw Jake Fisher (6-5, 3.89) on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
