SKEETERS TAKE OPENER

(July 3, 2018) -- The York Revolution fell behind early and couldn’t recover, losing 10-6 to the Sugar Land Skeeters Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park.

The Skeeters jumped on Revs starter Dominic Severino in the top of the first when Albert Cordero hit a grand slam over the right field wall. Sugar Land followed with another run in the second to go up 5-0 after two innings.

The Revs responded with three runs in the fourth off Skeeters starter Ben Griset. Michael Burgess lined an RBI single to left-center, Luis Cruz followed with an RBI single to left, and Alexi Casilla drew a two-out bases-loaded walk to make it a 5-3 game.

Sugar Land came right back and scored four more runs in the fifth against Revs reliever Joe Van Meter, sending ten men to the plate in the inning. Alvaro Rondon hit a two-RBI single and Javier Betancourt added an RBI double in the inning to make it 9-3 Skeeters.

The Revs got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice from Cruz, and two more in the sixth as Welington Dotel hit an RBI triple to the wall in right-center and Melky Mesa slashed an RBI single, cutting the Revs’ deficit to 9-6.

The Skeeters scored one more run in the seventh on a Barrett Barnes single to extend their lead to 10-6 and finish off the scoring for the night.

Severino (4-4) suffered the loss, lasting just three innings, giving up five runs on five hits.

Griset didn’t go much longer for the Skeeters, as he was yanked after four and one-third innings, giving up four runs, but only two earned. Ben Rowen (3-0) earned the win in relief for Sugar Land with a scoreless seventh.
