REVS SLAM CRABS

(May 8, 2018) -- The York Revolution bats broke out in a big way Tuesday night, powering York to a 12-2 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Revs conclude their road trip with a 10:35 a.m. contest on Wednesday morning, before returning home on Friday night to host the New Britain Bees.

The bulk of the damage came in a seven-run third inning, the biggest of the young season for the Revs, highlighted by a Michael Burgess grand slam.

Ross Detwiler started on the mound for the Revs and worked five strong innings, allowing just two runs with three strikeouts. He allowed one run in the top of the first, but got out of a bases-loaded one-out jam with a double play grounder off the bat of Frank Martinez, which set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Revs tied the game in the second on Rubi Silva’s RBI fielder’s choice, and the score remained 1-1 after two innings.

The bats got hot in the third, as the Revs exploded for seven runs on seven hits off Blue Crabs starter Alex Boshers, sending 11 men to the plate in the process with seven in-a-row reaching safely at one point. The big blow was a Burgess grand slam to left field. Luis Cruz added a double, and Silva and Ryan Dent both drove in runs in the inning, making it 8-1 Revs.

Up 8-2 heading into the seventh, Dent belted a two-run homer to left and Jared Mitchell added another run, scoring on a wild pitch. He would do the same in the ninth inning to provide the final margin.

The Revs went on to win 12-2, pounding out a season-high 18 hits in also notching their season-high in runs scored. In the win, six players had a multi-hit game including Mitchell who went 4-for-6, and three players had a multi-RBI game. All nine Revs starters had at least one hit and one run scored.

Detwiler (1-0) earned the win while Boshers (0-2) suffered the loss. Zac Grotz earned a save for the Revs, working the final four innings of the game, scattering two hits without allowing a run. Grotz has now logged 10.0 innings on the season, having surrendered just one run. He has totaled nine shutout innings over his last two appearances.

The Revs finish their two-game series with the Blue Crabs as Mitch Atkins (0-1, 14.09) gets the ball for York in Wednesday morning's tilt, opposite Crabs righty Casey Delgado (0-1, 9.64). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube with Darrell Henry and Michael Marcantonini on the call beginning at 10:30 a.m.
