CRABS FORCE GAME FOUR

(September 22, 2017 – Waldorf, Md.):  The York Revolution fell behind early, dropping Game Three of the Freedom Division Series, 9-2 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday evening in front of 4,671 fans at Regency Furniture Stadium.  The Blue Crabs stave off elimination, and force a Game Four in the best-of-five series on Saturday night.

Southern Maryland grabbed an early lead on a two-out RBI double by Michael Snyder, tucked just inside the line in the right field corner.  Patrick Palmeiro singled home a run an inning later to make it 2-0.

The Blue Crabs ballooned their lead to 6-0, scoring four times in the third.  Nate Samson singled to lead off, and running on the pitch, scored all the way from first on a throwing error by third baseman Chase Simpson.  Corey Vaughn slugged a three-run homer to left later in the inning, putting the Blue Crabs firmly in control.

Snyder connected on an opposite field solo homer to right in the fifth to make it 7-0.

L.J. Hoes cracked an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth and Devon Rodriguez ripped an RBI single up the middle in the eighth as the Blue Crabs’ lead peaked at 9-0.

Southern Maryland starter Brian Grening earned the win, limiting the Revs to just one hit over his six shutout innings.  The righty faced the minimum through the first three innings and allowed only a Ryan Dent double with two outs in the fifth.

Dent’s double remained York’s lone hit until Alonzo Harris singled with two outs in the eighth.

The Revs broke up the shutout against Southern Maryland closer Cody Eppley, appearing in his first game in a week, with two runs on four hits in the ninth.  Michael Burgess laced a one-out single to left and scored on a double to right-center from Isaias Tejeda.  Dent singled up the middle with two outs to drive in the second run.  Simpson roped a ground-rule double to right before Eppley induced a ground ball to end it.

York starter Frank Gailey struck out seven through the first three innings but suffered the loss, charged with seven runs (six earned) over 4.1 innings.

Notes: Five Revs pitchers combined to strike out 14 Blue Crabs, tying a York single-game playoff record and setting a new club record for a nine-inning playoff game.  Snyder went 3-for-4 to lead Southern Maryland and is now 8-for-12 with two homers in the series.  Southern Maryland snapped an eight-game losing streak including regular season play.  York lefty Logan Williamson (6-9, 5.21) faces Southern Maryland right hander Drew Hayes (8-8, 3.94) on Saturday at 6:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Matt Present on the call.
