REVS DROP OPENER

The York Revolution fell in their series opener against the Lancaster Barnstormers, 11-1 on Friday night in front of 4,324 fans at PeoplesBank Park.  York’s quest for the second half title will have to wait another night as the Revs’ season-high six game win streak comes to a close.

The Barnstormers came out of the gates hot offensively, plating six runs in the opening frame. The first seven batters reached base, highlighted by a Caleb Gindl RBI single, a bases loaded walk to Trayvon Robinson, a two RBI single from Nate Coronado, and a run scoring double from Steve Clevenger.

Lancaster added on in the second. Beau Amaral reached with a leadoff single, advanced to third on a Gindl single, and came into score on a sacrifice fly from Sean Halton to make it 7-0.

The Revs scored their lone run in the third inning as Alonzo Harris doubled down the left field line with two outs. Jared Mitchell followed with an infield single, and Harris hustled all the way around from second base to score on the play to get the Revs on the board.

Revs starter Jay Gause bounced back with a scoreless third, but was lifted after giving up a leadoff single to begin the fourth.

Jared Gaynor took over on the mound and surrendered an RBI double to Robinson, allowing an inherited run to score.  Coronado brought in a second run on a sacrifice fly, one of three in the game for the Barnstormers, to put Lancaster up 9-1.

Lancaster scored another run in the fifth to make it 10-1 as Lance Zawadzki reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on a fielder’s choice and an error, as the Revs were unable to complete a double play.

Gaynor settled in nicely on the mound. The lefty ended up working five innings in relief to preserve the bulk of the bullpen, and set down 12 of the final 13 batters he faced.

Luke Westphal returned to the mound for the first time in a month coming off an injury, and after allowing a leadoff home run to Coronado, struck out the next two batters and retired his final three overall.

The Revs have another opportunity to clinch Saturday night as they send Victor Mateo (6-9, 4.20) to the mound to face off with Brad Bergesen (9-9, 4.48) in a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. It’s High School Spirit Night presented by Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child hosted by York & Adams County Area OCC Team, as well as post-game fireworks at the ballpark.

Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on 1350 WOYK as well as online at woyk1350.com, the WOYK YouTube Channel, and on the WOYK App.

Notes:

Alonzo Harris stole his 30th base of the season, the sixth most for a Rev in a single season, and becomes the first Rev ever to hit 20 home runs and steal 30 bases in one season. Gaynor retired 11 consecutive batters at one point, matching the most ever by a York relief pitcher. The ten-run loss ties the largest margin of defeat this season for the Revs. Sanford was ejected in the top of the fourth for arguing an out call at first base, while Telvin Nash was ejected in the bottom of the eighth for arguing balls and strikes.
