SIX-RUN FIRST PROPELS REVS

The York Revolution exploded for six runs in the first inning and received a quality start from Logan Williamson, completing a sweep of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and winning their season-high sixth straight game by a final score of 9-2 on Thursday night in front of 2,976 fans at PeoplesBank Park. With Lancaster defeating Long Island on Thursday to stave off elimination, York will need to win one of the next three games against Lancaster this weekend to clinch a playoff berth.

The Blue Crabs got on the board quickly as Edwin Garcia led off the game with a single and Nate Samson followed with an RBI double to give Southern Maryland the 1-0 lead.

The Revs wasted no time in answering, batting around in the home first. Alonzo Harris led off the inning with a single and stole second. Jared Mitchell struck out swinging but reached on a wild pitch to put runners at first and third. Rubi Silva and Telvin Nash each followed with RBI singles to put the Revs in front 2-1. In his return to the lineup, Michael Burgess smacked a double off the Arch Nemesis in left to score two more.  After a bad throw to third, Burgess tried to make it all the way around to score himself, but was cut down at the plate for the first out.

With two outs in the inning the Revs continued to produce. Travis Witherspoon reached on an infield single, and Ryan Dent followed with a double to straight away center to extend the lead to 5-1. Chase Simpson followed with a bloop hit to left for York’s sixth run.

The Revs further poured it on in the second against Crabs starter Eric Fornataro (0-9). Silva singled, Nash walked, and Burgess reached on an error to load the bases. After a double play ball plated a run, Witherspoon came through with an RBI triple to right to put the Revs ahead 8-1. Dent doubled home another run to give York an eight run advantage.

Williamson (6-9) settled in nicely, going six strong innings to pick up his sixth win of the season, and at one point retiring ten consecutive batters.  Williamson finished with a season-high five strikeouts on the night and allowed his only other run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Brian Bistagne and Ryan Wiggins.

The Blue Crab bullpen held the Revs scoreless on just three hits over their final six innings, but the York bullpen was equally impressive as Michael Click, Joe Van Meter, and Grant Sides each fired 1-2-3 frames to close out the win.

The Revs improve to 39-28 in the second half, remaining 3.0 games up on Lancaster, and are a season-best 11 games above .500.

The Revs will host the Barnstormers in the final series of the regular season, beginning Friday night at 6:30 p.m. when Jay Gause (10-3, 2.98) takes the ball for York, opposed by Lancaster righty Joe Gardner (2-4, 6.59). It’s Ladies Night presented by HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York, featuring a hat giveaway to the first 1,000 ladies through the gates, presented by HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York. Notes:

The six run first inning was the 16th time this season that the Revs have scored 5+ runs in a frame. The 8 hits in the inning tie a season high for one inning. The victory for Williamson was the 21st of his Revs career, moving him into sole possession of fourth place all-time. Witherspoon’s first inning steal pushed him into sole possession of third place all-time in Revs history in swiped bags (53).  The Revs’ six-game winning streak is their longest since a six-gamer, June 27-July 2, 2014.
