REVS INCREASE DIVISION LEAD

(September 10, 2017 – Bridgewater, NJ):  The York Revolution used three home runs and Jay Gause picked up his 10th victory in an 8-1 win over the Somerset Patriots on Sunday afternoon in front of 5,789 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.  The Revs win the final two games of the series, taking two out of three to close the road portion of their regular season schedule.  York increases its first place lead in the Freedom Division to 1.5 games, returning home for the final seven games of the regular season with a homestand beginning Monday night.

York got off to a quick start, plating two in the top of the first.  Alonzo Harris led off the game with a walk and stole second base.  Jared Mitchell also took a walk and the duo advanced to second and third on a double steal.  That set up Isaias Tejeda who ripped an RBI groundout to short, driving in the game’s first run.  Michael Burgess added a two-out RBI single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.

The Revs doubled their advantage in the second.  With two outs, Ryan Dent took a free pass to keep the inning alive and Chase Simpson launched a 3-2 offering over the wall in right for a two-run homer to go up 4-0.

Patriots starter Lucas Irvine (8-4) retired 11 in-a-row after the Simpson long ball until Tejeda smashed a double off the left-center fence with one out in the sixth.  Telvin Nash followed by crushing a two-run homer to left, his 15th of the season in just 41 games played to make it 6-0.  The home run was his 43rd all-time in a Revolution uniform, moving ahead of Jason Aspito (2007-09) for fourth most in franchise history.

Gause (10-3) was outstanding, retiring his first seven batters and allowing just one hit through his first 4.2 innings.

Gause carried a shutout into the sixth before Aharon Eggleston lined a leadoff homer to right.  Alfredo Rodriguez followed with a single, but Gause finished strong with a 1-6-3 double play off the bat of Olmo Rosario and a strike out of Mark Minicozzi to end the sixth.

Travis Witherspoon greeted reliever Kyler Newby with a first pitch home run to left, leading off the seventh.  Dent drew his second walk and Simpson singled to advance Dent to third before scoring on a double play to provide the 8-1 margin.

Ricardo Gomez, Brad Allen, and Michael Click all tossed shutout innings out of the Revs bullpen to finish off the victory.

Notes: Gause’s 10 victories have come in only 15 starts.  He ranks tied for third in the league in wins and joins Frank Gailey (league-leading 13 wins) in double digit victories on the Revs’ staff.  It marks the fourth time in franchise history that the Revs have had multiple 10-game winners on staff and first since 2014.  The Revs finish the season series 12-7 against Somerset, having won eight of the ten second half meetings.  The Revs have scored eight runs in each of the last two games, both victories, after being shut out on Friday.  York scored its eight runs on only six hits in Sunday’s game, and stranded just one runner.  It marks the first time in franchise history the Revs have scored eight runs or more in back-to-back games at Somerset.  York righty Victor Mateo (6-9, 4.36) faces the Long Island Ducks in a rain makeup on Monday at PeoplesBank Park at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
