REVS WIN THRILLER

(August 8, 2017 – Bridgewater, NJ):  The York Revolution scored three times to break a tie in the top of the seventh, winning a thriller 4-1 over the Somerset Patriots in the opener of Tuesday’s doubleheader before dropping the second game 10-3 on Tuesday morning and afternoon in front of 5,133 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.  The game one victory was the Revs’ sixth in seven games.  With the split, York is now 19-13 in the second half, and will conclude a seven-game road trip on Wednesday night.

York starter Steve Janas was brilliant in the opener, and led 1-0 with two outs in the sixth before Aharon Eggleston connected on a game-tying line drive home run to right.

The Revs responded in a big way in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.  Michael Burgess worked a walk to lead things off, and with one out, Dayron Varona singled to left field.  Patriots closer Ronnie Shaban recorded a fly out for the second out, but Carlos Triunfel came through on a 2-2 count with a clutch line drive single to left, plating pinch-runner Travis Witherspoon for a 2-1 lead.  Ryan Dent followed with a two-run double down the left field line, giving the Revs a 4-1 cushion.

Chase Huchingson recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh.  After a walk put two men on to bring the tying run to the plate, Brad Allen entered to retire Scott Kelly on a first-pitch foul pop up to third, quickly chalking up his 16th save and nailing down a big win.

Janas (3-5) picked up his second straight victory and the Revs won the right hander’s third consecutive start, as he allowed just one run on five hits over six innings, walking none and striking out two.

Janas and Patriots starter Mike Antonini were both perfect through the first two innings.  With two outs in the third, Dent drove a double to deep left field, setting up Alonzo Harris who ripped an RBI single up the middle to spot York a 1-0 lead.  That would remain the game’s only run until the late innings.

The Patriots jumped out to a big lead in the second game as Kyle Roller lined a two-run homer down the right field line with two outs in the first.  Somerset scored three more runs in the second on a two-run single to left by Alfredo Rodriguez and a run-scoring double to left-center from Justin Trapp.  That was followed by a four-run third, as the Patriots took advantage of a pair of York errors as well as a two-run single by Trapp.  An RBI groundout from Adam Donachie added another run in the fourth, also unearned following an error, as Somerset led 10-0.

Alexi Casilla lined a bases-clearing three-run double down the right field line in the top of the fifth to produce all three York runs in the second game.

Patriots spot starter A.J. Achter was perfect through three innings with five strikeouts, including striking out the side in the third.  Reliever Connor Root (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits, but worked the final four innings to nab the victory.

York starter Logan Williamson (5-8) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs (six earned) over 2.2 innings.  He had won four of his previous six starts, and allowed no more than four runs in any of his previous eight outings since June 23, owning a 2.78 on that stretch before Tuesday’s defeat.

Revs righty Jay Gause (7-1, 2.39) faces Somerset right-hander David Kubiak (5-8, 3.82) on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
