REVS SLAM BEES

(August 4, 2017 – New Britain, Ct.):  Alonzo Harris drove in a career-high five runs including a second inning grand slam as the York Revolution won their fourth consecutive game, 7-4 over the New Britain Bees on Friday night at New Britain Stadium.  The four-game winning streak ties a season-long for the Revs who improve to 17-11 in the second half, remaining within two games of first place.

York trailed 1-0 early as Jamar Walton (3-for-4) pulled a two-out RBI single to right in the bottom of the first inning.

The Revs responded with their fifth inning of five runs or more in the last six games, scoring five times in the second for a 5-1 lead.  Jared Mitchell got things going with a leadoff walk, and running on the pitch, scored on a Dayron Varona double to left-center to tie the score.  Walks to Carlos Triunfel and Chase Simpson followed, loading the bases for Harris who parked a grand slam to left for his career high-tying 15th long ball of the season and seventh in his last 10 games.

Bees starter Mike Lee (2-6) settled down to retire his next seven batters but Simpson tagged a triple off the center field fence with one out in the fourth and scored on a Harris sac fly to center as the Revs went up 6-1.

York starter Jay Gause rolled double plays in the second, third, and fourth innings before working a perfect fifth.

Mike Crouse lofted a high solo home run down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the lead to 6-2.

The Revs recouped that run in the seventh as Michael Burgess lined an RBI single to center, making it a 7-2 game.

New Britain answered back with a run in the bottom of the seventh as James Skelton drove in Yusuke Kajimoto (infield single) on a ground out, as Gause allowed more than two runs for the first time in his eight starts.  Reliever Chase Huchingson recorded a second straight groundout, retiring Jordan Hinshaw to finish the inning.

Michael Click fired a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out two batters.

Brad Allen quickly recorded his first out in the ninth, striking out Conor Bierfeldt.  Jon Griffin dribbled a single through the right side and Kajimoto took a walk to give New Britain a threat.  Michael Baca drove an RBI double to left-center, bringing the tying run to the plate.  Allen rebounded to retire Skelton on a fly out and Hinshaw on a pop up, securing the victory.

Gause (7-1) picked up his fourth consecutive win, allowing three runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings.

Notes: Harris’ grand slam is the Revs’ fourth of the season and third against New Britain.  It is York’s second grand slam in six days as Triunfel connected on one at New Britain in Sunday’s victory.  Harris extended his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.  Simpson reached base safely in six straight plate appearances (four hits) through his triple in the fourth.  The Revs’ other four-game winning streak occurred April 27-30.  York has won three straight road games, tying a season-high.  The Revs improve to 20-11 since June 30 and have won nine of their last 12 overall.  York is now 4-1 vs. New Britain in the second half after going 2-8 in the first half.  Revs righty Victor Mateo (4-6, 3.94) faces Bees right-hander Kyle Simon (6-9, 4.61) on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
