Gary, Ind. – Beamer Weems’ two-out RBI double in the top of the 10th gave the Texas AirHogs (4-4) a 3-2 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (4-4), spoiling the team’s home opener. Rondon reached base via a fielder’s choice before Trevor Sealey reached base via a two-out walk. Beamer Weems hit a long fly ball to center field warning track, allowing both Rondon and Sealey to score the game-winning runs.

Texas jumped in front with an unearned run in the third. Ryne Willard and Jake Luce led off the inning with back-to-back singles, however a RailCats throwing error allowed Willard to advance to third on Luce’s single, giving the RailCats runners on the corners. Two batters later, Sealey brought home Willard on an RBI fielder’s choice.

There would be no scoring until the sixth inning, when Denis Phipps hit an RBI double to right field doubling, the AirHogs’ lead.

The RailCats were able to even the game at two without getting a hit in the home half of the sixth. This was in large part due to three consecutive walks. Alex Crosby then grounded out into an RBI groundout that scored Cheky, however, Colin Willis was able to score as well on a Sealey throwing error.

Jaime Del Valle and John Holland recorded both hits in the home opener defeat. Defensively, Gary committed four allows, accounting for half of Texas’ runs.

Jeff McKenzie recorded a no-decision in his second start of the season. The southpaw allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out seven over a season-high seven innings.

Jack Fowler (0-1) suffered the loss in the series opener. The southpaw allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in one inning out of the bullpen.

T.J. Bozemann (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless 9th inning while Luis De La Cruz (2) secured the save with a scoreless 10th inning. The RailCats drew back-to-back two-out walks in the bottom of the 10th, however, De La Cruz struck out Cheky Jr. to give Texas the win.
