Kansas City, Kan. —  Andy DeJesus’ two-out RBI single in the top of the 13th gave the Gary SouthShore RailCats a 3-2 win over the Kansas City T-Bones for their fourth straight win and their first series sweep of the year on Wednesday night at Community America Ballpark. Wilfredo Gimenez started the inning with a one-out single to right before being replaced by pinch-runner Kris Goodman. Goodman then stole second before DeJesus smoked an RBI single back through the middle for the game-winning run.

Gimenez finished with a game-high four hits while DeJesus and Colin Willis each recorded three hits. Drasen Johnson (1-1) retired all six hitters he faced over two innings in his first win of the year while Ryan Fritze (1) secured the save in the bottom of the 13th. In three professional appearances, Fritze has two wins and a save and has retired 10 of the 11 batters he’s faced.

After both teams failed to have a single baserunner reach third base through the first three innings, Gary (4-3) scored a pair of runs on four straight singles to open the fourth, jumping in front of the T-Bones, 2-0. Alex Crosby brought home the game’s first run with an RBI single down the first base line before Gimenez took the first pitch he saw into left-center field for the final run of the inning.

Kansas City (1-5) evened the game at 2-2 with two runs of their own in the seventh. Chase McDonald led off the inning with a solo homer down the right field line for his first long ball of the year. Five hitters later, Omar Garcia tied the game at 2-2 with a bases-loaded infield RBI single, scoring Christian Correa from third.

Tyler Harris recorded a no-decision in his first start of the season. T. Harris retired seven straight at one point and struck out five over five scoreless innings. 

Aaron Brooks (1-2) suffered his second loss of the series for Kansas City. Brooks allowed one run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Gary is idle on Thursday and returns to U.S. Steel Yard for their home opener on Friday, May 26 vs. the Texas AirHogs at 7:10 p.m. LHP Jeff McKenzie (0-1, 6.00) opposes Texas’ RHP Carlos Contreras (0-1, 11.25) in the series opener. Friday’s game vs. the AirHogs is a Fifth Third Bank Fireworks Friday and features a free magnet schedule giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, courtesy of Great Lakes Orthopedics.
