Rosemont, Ill. — Four two-out runs and two separate fourth and fifth inning leads weren’t enough for Gary as the RailCats fell to the Chicago Dogs, 7-5, on Tuesday night in front of 5,278 in attendance at Impact Field. Chicago scored the final four runs of the game and had every starter reach at least once in game two of the four-game series.

After both teams failed to score in the first, Chicago and Gary each exchanged two-out runs in the second. Wilfredo Gimenez gave the ‘Cats the opening lead of the night with an RBI single to center, scoring D.K. Carey from third. Michael Baca served an RBI single through the right side of the infield for the Dogs in the home half, plating Dalton Blaser from third, who tripled off the top of the right field wall earlier in the frame.

Gary (23-20) added their second two-out in the top of the third to go up 2-1. Reggie Wilson led off the inning with a double down the left field line before an Andy De Jesus groundout to third moved Wilson to third. Two batters later, Colin Willis floated an RBI single into shallow left-center field, bringing home Wilson from third.

Chicago (15-28) took their first lead of the evening with two runs in the bottom of the third. Joe Benson evened the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly to left before Tony Rosselli put the Dogs in front 3-2 with a two-out RBI single to left, scoring Trey Vavra from second.

The RailCats answered with two more two-out runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. Gimenez tied the game after scoring from third on a Michael Falsetti passed ball before De Jesus gave Gary back the lead with an RBI single to left field.

Gary increased their lead to 5-3 with another run in the top of the fifth. Carey reached in his season-high-tying fifth straight plate appearance going back to yesterday after singling to center. Carey then advanced to second on a throwing error from Falsetti behind the plate on a snap throw to first before coming around to score on an RBI double from Andy Paz to left-center.

The Dogs tied the game at 5-5 on a two-out, two-run home run to left from Rosselli in the bottom of the fifth. The homer was Rosselli’s fourth of the year and second long ball off Alex Gunn.

The Dogs jumped back in front in the sixth to go up 6-5. Matt Dean led off the frame with a single left before Falsetti drew a walk. Moroney then poked a single to left, loading the bases for Edwin Arroyo. Arroyo followed with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, scoring Dean from third.

Chicago scored the final run of the night in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. Benson tripled to the right-center wall to begin the inning before a Keaton Steele wild pitch allowed Benson to trout home.

Steele (2-2) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on six hits, three walks and four walks in a season-high three innings of relief. Jared Carkuff (2-1) recorded the win after allowing one run on three hits, no walks and four strikeouts over 3.1 innings of relief while Kaohi Downing secured the win with a perfect top of the ninth in his team-high 10th save.

The RailCats conclude their four-game series on Wednesday against the Chicago Dogs with a doubleheader (two seven-inning games) beginning at 5 p.m. RHP Yasutomo Kubo (0-0, 0.00) will start game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader and Gary has yet to announce their game two starter. Chicago sends LHP Tommy Thorpe (1-2, 2.73) to the mound in game one and LHP Rich Mascheri (1-0, 2.75) in game two.

Wednesday is the fifth “Office Wednesday” of the year, another NorthShore Health Centers Wednesday, and the second annual 4th of Juluau Pig Roast, presented by Berey Bros, and Barefoot Hawaiian Luau with Fire Dancers. Wednesday’s game is Independence Day and will feature a classic egg toss between games and an Independence Day Fireworks Super Show after game two of the doubleheader.
