Rosemont, Ill. —  A four-run top of the ninth and 3.1 scoreless innings from the Gary bullpen led the RailCats to a 6-2 win over the Chicago Dogs on Tuesday morning at Impact Field. The win was the RailCats first regular-season victory at Impact Field and improved Gary’s record to 4-1 on the year against Chicago.

With the score tied, 2-2, Randy Santiesteban gave Gary the lead for good with a solo home run down the left field line to lead off the inning. Wilfredo Gimenez doubled the RailCats lead with an RBI single to left before Cole Fabio gave Gary their biggest lead of the series at 6-2 with a two-out, two-run double to left.

Adam Quintana recorded the final three outs, two via a strikeout, in the bottom of the ninth in a non-save situation while Gabe Perez (1-0) picked up his first win with Gary in a season-high-tying 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Perez struck out four of the nine hitters he faced and allowed only two hits.

Gary (19-16) struck first on Colin Willis’ two-out, two-run opposite field home run in the top of the first. The homer for Willis was his team-leading fourth of the year and ended the RailCats season-long 12-game homerless drought.

Chicago (10-25) cut the Gary lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first before tying the game with another run in the bottom of the second. Trey Vavra got the Dogs on the board with an RBI double in the first before Matt Telesco evened the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly to right in the second.

Lars Liguori recorded a no-decision in his career start against Chicago. The southpaw yielded two runs (one earned) on eight hits, no walks and struck out two in 5.2 innings.

Taylor Grover (0-2) was tagged with the loss for the Dogs. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, no walks and struck out one in an inning of relief.
