GARY, Ind. —  Trailing 4-0 after five innings, the Gary SouthShore RailCats rallied with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth, however, were unable to pull off a come-from-behind win against the reigning champion Goldeyes for the second straight game, falling to Winnipeg, 4-3, in the middle game of the series on a chilly, windy Tuesday evening. The loss was just the second for Gary during their season-long 10-day homestand and remain in second place in the North Division.

Winnipeg (10-8) took the opening lead of the game for the second straight night with a two-out run in the second. Reggie Abercrombie led off the inning with a double to right-center for the Goldeyes first hit of the game. Two batters later, Victor Cruzado floated an RBI double down the left field line, plating Abercrombie.

The Goldeyes doubled their lead with another run in the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, Cruzado drew a bases-loaded walk for his second RBI of the night, making it a 2-0 game.

Winnipeg increased their lead to 4-0 with two unearned runs in the fifth. With Andrew Sohn on first and two outs, Reynaldo Rodriguez lifted a pop fly in to shallow center field, however, shortstop Andy De Jesus couldn’t make the catch, allowing Sohn to score. Abercrombie then hit the very next pitch to left, however left fielder Reggie Wilson lost the ball in the lights, bringing Rodriguez around to score on Abercrombie’s third of four hits.

Gary (10-7) ended the shutout with two runs in the sixth. Wilson led off the frame with a walk before Christoph Bono ended his 0-for-17 slide with a single to right. Cole Fabio then advanced both baserunners up a base with a sacrifice bunt before Alex Crosby extended his season-high on-base streak to 14 games with an RBI infield single. De Jesus followed with an RBI single down the left field line, scoring Bono.

The RailCats tacked on another run in the eighth, cutting the Winnipeg lead to 4-3. Bono led off the inning with an infield single before Fabio drew a walk. Crosby advanced both runners up 90-feet with a groundout to first before De Jesus brought home his second run with an RBI groundout to third.

Daniel Minor (3-1) was charged with the loss in his first career appearance against his former team. The right-hander allowed a season-high four runs (two earned) on six hits and a career-high four walks while striking out five in seven innings. Jeremy Holcombe yielded a hit and a walk in his American Association debut, however, didn’t allow a run in the top of the eighth while Myles Smith recorded three straight groundouts in the top of the ninth.

Edwin Carl (2-1) earned the win after allowing two runs over a season-best 6.2 innings. The right-hander faced the minimum through five innings and allowed two runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out four in his fourth start. Josh Blanco and Jack Charleston each recorded holds with scoreless relief appearances while Victor Capellan secured the win with his league-high eighth save in the bottom of the ninth after blowing his first save on Monday.

The RailCats conclude their 10-day homestand vs. the reigning champion Winnipeg Goldeyes on Wednesday night at 7:10. LHP Alex Gunn (2-1, 2.16) opposes Goldeyes’ LHP Shane Dawson (3-0, 3.38) in the series finale.
