GARY, Ind. —  18 hits, four home runs and six unanswered runs from Fargo-Moorhead proved to be too much for Gary as the ‘Cats had their league-best seven-game winning streak snapped after falling to the RedHawks, 10-2, in front of 4,496 fans on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard. Despite Sunday’s loss, Gary claimed their third straight series with Saturday’s win and are 5-1 during their season-long 10-day homestand.

Fargo-Moorhead (8-7) took the opening lead of the afternoon with a run in the first. Maikol Gonzalez recorded the first hit of the game with a one-out single to right before stealing second. Devan Ahart followed with a walk before Randolph Oduber loaded the bases with a single to shallow center. Leobaldo Pina then made it 1-0 with an RBI fielder’s choice, scoring Gonzalez from third.

Gary (9-6) tied the game with a run in the second. John Price Jr. gave the ‘Cats their first hit with an infield single before Wilfredo Gimenez drew a walk. Reggie Wilson was then hit in the back, loading the bases for Andy De Jesus. De Jesus followed with a sacrifice fly to right, bringing in Price.

The RedHawks regained the lead on Keury De La Cruz’s three-run home run to right in the fourth. The homer was De La Cruz’s fourth and increased his team-high RBI total to 17.

Alex Crosby cut the deficit to 4-2 with a solo home run down the right field line in the fifth. The homer was Crosby’s first and the RailCats sixth of the year.

Fargo-Moorhead made it 7-2 with three runs in the sixth. Tommy Mendonca put Fargo in front by four with a two-run home run to right before Joe De Luca followed with his first homer of the season down the right field line.

The RedHawks added three more runs in seventh to take their biggest lead of the series. De La Cruz recorded the final of his four RBIs with an RBI single to left before Charlie Valerio belted a two-run shot for his league-high-tying sixth home run.

Lars Liguori (1-1) was charged with the loss in his first start as a Gary SouthShore RailCat. The southpaw allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out one over 4.1 innings.

Chris Powell logged 1.2 innings of relief, allowing six runs on nine hits (three home runs allowed) and two walks while striking out three. Jack Fowler retired the last eight batters he faced in three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

D.K. Carey led the RailCats offense with three hits while Crosby extended his season-high on-base streak to 12 games with a two-hit day. Andy Paz and De Jesus also increased their season-high hitting streaks to seven games with one and two hits respectively.

Sebastian Kessay (1-0) recorded the win for the RedHawks. The left-hander yielded two runs on six hits, five walks and a hit batsman while striking out three over five innings in his third start.

The RailCats resume their 10-day homestand vs. the reigning champion Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night at 7:10. LHP Jeff McKenzie (1-0, 8.00) opposes Goldeyes’ All-Star LHP Kevin McGovern (1-1, 3.18) in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
