RailCats acquire Farfan, Glasser from Goldeyes

GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Onas Farfan and infielder Mitch Glasser on Tuesday afternoon from the Winnipeg Goldeyes to partially complete the trade from August 10th that sent pitcher Charle Rosario to the Goldeyes for right-handed pitcher Daniel Minor, four players to be named later and cash considerations.

Glasser hit .282 with three home runs, 33 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and scored a team-best 70 runs in 90 games for Cleburne in 2017. Glasser was also hit by pitch a team-high 14 times and was second on the Railroaders with a .380 on-base percentage, 41 walks and 98 hits.

Before the start of the 2017 American Association regular season, Glasser played for Israel in the World Baseball Classic qualifier. Glasser didn’t receive an at-bat, however, did appear as a defensive replacement. Glasser began his professional baseball career in 2013 after getting drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 39th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Macalester College (St. Paul, Minn.). Glasser played in three games for the Bristol White Sox (Rookie Ball) in 2013 before beginning his Independent Professional Baseball career with the now defunct Joplin Blasters in 2015.

Farfan went 3-4 with a 5.83 ERA in 26 games (one start) for the Cleburne Railroaders in 2017. In 41.2 innings, Farfan allowed 27 earned runs on 47 hits and 25 walks while striking out 28. Farfan began his professional baseball career in 2014 after getting drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 21st round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Ridgewater Community College (Wilmar, Minn.). The southpaw spent parts of three seasons in the Twins minor league system, reaching as high as Rookie Ball.
