LINCOLN, NEB. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the signing of infielder Chris Chiaradio on Tuesday. To accommodate Chiaradio, the RailCats have moved infielder Randy Santiesteban to the inactive list from the disabled list (retroactive to August 13) and placed outfielder Reggie Wilson on the disabled list (retroactive to August 16).

Chiaradio, 23, is in his second season in independent professional baseball as he has appeared in 58 games with the Sussex County Miners of the Can-Am League since 2016. Chiaradio has 14 career stolen bases, in 19 attempts, and scored 16 runs during his time in Sussex County. He has experience playing both the middle infield and the outfield and he played college ball at Seton Hall University.

Wilson, 24, leads the team with 49 walks on the season in 73 games this season. The former Philadelphia Phillies draftee is second on the team with 14 steals. His .293 batting average in the month of July placed him third among all RailCats hitters with 10 or more games played. Wilson has 10 extra base hits, 16 RBI, and a .355 on-base percentage.

Santiesteban, 25, has a .257 batting average, 2 home runs, and 25 RBI in 67 games this season. The Peru State College alum had solidified his position as the cleanup hitter for the ballclub prior to his injury as he recorded five hits in the last three games he has appeared in.

Gary continues their four-game road series against Lincoln on Tuesday night at 6:45 p.m. Southpaw Jeff McKenzie (3-3, 3.76) opposes the reigning American Association pitcher of the month Derek Gordon (9-2, 2.89).

Gary returns home to U.S. Steel Yard on Friday, August 25th, for a three-game series vs. Kansas City at 7:10 p.m. Friday’s game is Stand Up to Cancer Night, features a Hat Giveaway and is another Fireworks Friday.
