GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the re-signing of 2016 All-Star Catcher Jose Gonzalez on Wednesday afternoon and activated first baseman Alex Crosby from the inactive list. The RailCats also traded outfielder Tyler Sullivan to the Wichita Wingnuts for future considerations.

On Monday, July 24th Gary traded catcher James Alfonso to the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League for a player to be named later. Alfonso hit .133 with three doubles and five RBIs in 20 games for the RailCats.

Gonzalez hit .156 with one home run and six RBIs in 25 games with the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins Double-A Affiliate) after having his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins on Feb. 3, 2017. Gonzalez was one of two All-Stars for the RailCats last season and was also named the 2016 American Association Defensive Player of the Year. The catcher gunned down 24 of 47 base stealers (34%) and hit .232 with four home runs and 21 RBIs.
            
Crosby was placed on the inactive list on July 8th after originally being placed on the disabled list on June 27th. Crosby is hitting .270 with one home run and two stolen bases in 33 games for Gary. Sullivan signed his first Independent Professional Baseball contract with Gary on July 11th and batted .275 with three RBIs and a stolen base in 10 games.
