GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats (34-28) failed to avoid their first sweep of the season after falling to the Sioux City Explorers (30-29) in the final game before the two-day All-Star break. The RailCats have now lost a season-high-tying four straight games and have allowed 10+ hits to the opposition in a season-high six consecutive games.

Sioux City struck first with a run in the third. Joe Bennie led off with a double and moved to third on a Jayce Ray groundout to second. Tyler Ogle then brought home Bennie with a sacrifice fly to right for the first run of the game.

The RailCats tied the game at 1-1 with their only run of the game in the fourth Reggie Wilson and Colin Willis drew back-to-back walks to start the frame. Wilson then moved to third on a fielder’s choice before a Kramer Sneed pitch allowed him to score from third.

In the seventh, Sioux City re-took the lead when Tony Campana scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of Jayce Ray. Campana reached on a one out single before advancing to third on single from Bennie. 

The Explorers added the final run of the series when Jonathan Gonzalez knocked in Levon Washington with an RBI single. Washington reached base on a leadoff double before advancing to third on a Michael Lang groundout to second.

Alex Gunn pitched 5.1 innings on Sunday. Gunn allowed an earned run on eight hits, two walks and struck out four in a no-decision. Jesse Pratt (1-2) suffered the defeat in his RailCats debut. The former Wichita Wingnut allowed a run on two hits and added one strikeout.

Sioux City’s Kramer Sneed allowed one earned run in six innings (3-2) to earn his third win of the season. Sneed allowed one earned run on six hits, walked two and struck out four. Hobbs Johnson (1) tossed 2.1 scoreless innings to close out the game in his first save of the year.
 
Gary is idle for the next two days due to the All-Star break before returning to play on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. for the start of a four-game, three-day series vs. the Salina Stockade. Neither Team has yet to announce their starter for Wednesday’s series opener.
