RailCats sign Pautsch to first professional contract

GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Marshall Pautsch and the waiving of outfielder Anthony Cheky Jr. on Monday afternoon.


Pautsch was named Third Team All-West Region as a senior in 2017 at California Lutheran University after going 10-3 with a 3.31 ERA. Pautsch led the NCAA Division III National Champion Kingsmen in starts (18), innings pitched (114.1), complete games (three) and strikeouts (105). Pautsch is also fifth in school history in innings pitched (246.1) and wins (23).


Gary begins a seven-game homestand on Monday night against Fargo-Moorhead. Monday’s game vs. the RedHawks is at 7:10 p.m. and is another MetroPCS Monday. Pautsch (0-0, 0.00) makes his professional debut in the series opener against RedHawks All-Star Tyler Alexander (1-4, 2.52).


Monday’s contest vs. the RedHawks is also the inaugural Fourth of Juluau Pig Roast, presented by Berey Bros., and features Fireworks and Barefoot Hawaiian Fire Dancers.
