RailCats Sign RHP Mathys to First Pro Contract

Fargo, N.D. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced Friday the signing of right-handed pitcher Jake Mathys. Mathys recently graduated from Angelo State University in Texas where he finished his senior season with an 8-4 record and a 4.45 ERA. Prior to Angelo State, Mathys played at Kansas State and Southwest Minnesota State.

The RailCats have also placed pitchers Carlos Pinales and Jorge De Leon on waivers. De Leon is 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA and has four saves and 12 appearances. Pinales has appeared in five games this season, and has recorded a save. Pinales has an ERA of 4.26 and no record thus far.

Gary returns home to U.S. Steel Yard on Monday, July 3rd for the start of a seven-game homestand. Monday’s game vs. Fargo-Moorhead is at 7:10 p.m. and is another MetroPCS Monday. Monday’s series opener against the RedHawks is also the inaugural Fourth of Juluau Pig Roast, presented by Berey Bros., and features Fireworks and Barefoot Hawaiian Fire Dancers.
