Professional Career

2019

In his first year out of UNM, Schilling joined Gary in 2019 for 18 games with the RailCats. The rookie batted .246 with a .372 on base percentage while slugging .323 and driving in six in 78 plate appearances on the year.

REDSHIRT SENIOR (2019)

Schilling had his busiest season yet in 2019 when the El Cajon, CA native appeared in 52 games and made 233 plate appearances, slashing .317/.404/.442. He tied a career-high 30 RBI for the third straight season in tandem with 14 doubles, five triples, and one home run. The short stop also tore it up on the base path, stealing a career-high 15 bases over the course of the season while scoring 43 runs in the process. 

REDSHIRT JUNIOR (2018)

Led the team with a batting average (.348) and on-base percentage (.453) after recording one home run, 15 doubles, one triple and 30 RBI … Had 33 runs and 30 RBI in 49 games played (46 starts) and saw four stolen bases … Had 17 multiple-hit games, five of which occurred back-to-back in the final games of the season … Served as starting shortstop and recorded 93 assists and 6 double plays … Made three relief appearances out of the bullpen, going 2.2 innings and holding a 3.37 ERA.

REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2017) 

Took on the role as starting shortstop for the Lobos in 2017 and hit .317 with two home runs, nine doubles, a triple, 35 runs, 30 RBI and eight stolen bases in 48 games (42 starts) … Shined for the Lobos during the Mountain West Tournament, going 4-for-10 with seven RBI in three games … Had a 12-game hit streak from April 18 to May 7.

FRESHMAN (2015)

Hit .250 in 26 games, including 19 starts at second base and shortstop, and also became a valuable late-inning reliever out of the bullpen … posted a 3.38 ERA in 16.0 innings over 17 relief appearances … saved two games, tying the school record for saves by a freshman set by three other players … first career at bat came vs. San Diego State on March 7 and he drove in the game-winning run with a single to left … had a five-game hitting streak from May 3-10 … hit .476 (10-for-21) during the streak with six runs and seven RBIs, including a season-high four vs. San Jose State on May 9 … first save came at No. 18 Texas Tech on March 24, and his second came at UNLV on April 18 … held opponents to a .245 average against and allowed just two extra-base hits.

PERSONAL

Born April 20, 1996, in La Mesa, Calif. to parents are David Schilling and Pamela Nunez. Schilling was a two-time First Team All-East County honoree and was named to First Team Grossmont Hills in 2013 and Second Team Grossmont Hills in 2014. Hayden also played one year of football for the Wolfpack and was an honor roll student. He enjoys playing beach volleyball, snorkeling and cliff jumping in his free time while his favorite movies are Bull Durham and Anchorman.
