Steve McKelvey joined the Mark H. McCormack Sport Management Department, housed within the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, in June 2002. He is currently an Associate Professor and has, for the past seven years, also served as the Graduate Program Director.  
 

Prior to joining the UMass Sport Management program, Professor McKelvey spent 15 years in a variety of positions within the sport industry, working on both the properties and the agency side.  His sport marketing and sponsorship experience includes six years in the Corporate Sponsorship division of Major League Baseball; six years at PSP Sports where he was responsible for building an in-house sports marketing agency whose clients included Wise Snack Food Company, Beck’s Beer, Century 21 Real Estate, U.S. Postal Service, and American Suzuki, among others; and two years as President of Fan Guide, Inc., a sports publishing and marketing firm headquartered in New York City.
 

He has authored articles on sport marketing, licensing and the law for publications including The Virginia Sport & Entertainment law Journal; Seton Hall Journal of Sport Law; Entertainment and Sports Lawyer; Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, International Journal of Sport Marketing and Management,  SportsBusiness Journal, and Brandweek, among others.

 

He has also spent 18 years as a partner in the baseball representation firm DiaMMond Management Group, which has represented over 100 professional baseball players (including 11 clients who have played in the Major Leagues). McKelvey’s primary role with the agency is to secure and manage the licensing and endorsement deals for DMG clients. He is also responsible for developing and implementing DMG clients’ charitable endeavors, which have included bowling, golf and poker fundraising tournaments.
 

McKelvey holds a B.A. in American Studies from Amherst College, an M.S. in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts Sport Management Program, and a J.D. from Seton Hall School of Law. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1993.
