Dear Faithful Readers,

As you may know, the Forum is big on traditions. It has become a tradition of ours to recognize Forum family members whenever they hit a milestone. At every Forum we recognize the “5-year Alumni Club”, the “Decade Jersey Team”, the “15-year Football Family”, and the “20-year Emeritus Members” in front of all NSF attendees. It’s our way of showing how much we value our Forum family.

As it turns out, the Fort Wayne TinCaps have a unique tradition of their own. This tradition began as a contest for the millionth fan that entered the ball park. The contest has become so popular for the TinCaps that it has continued for every millionth fan since and this is now the third contest of its kind recognizing their 3,000,000th fan. The TinCaps have enjoyed putting on this contest and are now looking towards their next milestone!

Enjoy the read!

Cheers,

PROGRAM TITLE

Fort Wayne TinCaps: "3,000,000th Fan Contest"

OBJECTIVES

The TinCaps wanted to create a fun and exciting way to celebrate the dedication from their fans.  The original idea for the 3,000,000th Fan promotion began when the TinCaps were close to reaching their one millionth fan at Parkview Field, which opened in 2009. They wanted to do something inclusive for their fans that was not an impossible competition, something that any fan could have a chance to win.  They eventually decided that a game of chance would be better than a competition.  After the milestone game the three millionth fan had the chance to win $3 million.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Early Bird Discount
The TinCaps have run similar promotions each time they reach a one million milestone.  The one-millionth fan had the chance to win $1 million and the two-millionth fan had the opportunity to win $2 million.  In doing this, the TinCaps have created a tradition for their fans to look forward to every few years.  Each milestone has been reached about every two and a half years.  The fans have become accustomed to this newly formed tradition and take pride in the team and attending the games.

The TinCaps used 30 burlap money bags with a dollar sign printed on each one. Three of the bags were designated as “winners.”  The selected fan got to choose three bags, and to win the $3 million, the fan had to select all three winners. Even if the participating fan did not choose all three winners, they still left with on of the following prizes:
  • 3 out of 3 bags = $3 million
  • 2 out of 3 bags = $30,000
  • 1 out of 3 bags = Large prize pack
  • 0 out of 3 bags = Small prize pack
The year the TinCaps ran the 1,000,000th fan contest, the one lucky fan selected two out of the three winning bags and received $10,000.  This year the three millionth fan entered the ballpark and did not choose any of the correct bags, but he still received a season ticket plan.

The contest was held after the game had concluded, and the majority of the fans stayed to watch.  The lucky fan was revealed throughout the ballgame by announcing a portion of their seat location at the end of each inning.

PARTNERSHIP

The TinCaps partnered with Advantage Hole in One Insurance to put on the promotion.

RESULTS

The TinCaps got great publicity, especially on social media.  Local television and radio stations, along with the local newspaper, covered the days leading up to the contest.  During the game there was a buzz among the fans about who the lucky fan would be and if they would win.  The TinCaps’ contest helped draw large amounts of attention to a smaller community.

LOOKING AHEAD

The TinCaps appreciate all their fans and the fans have come to expect this contest at each milestone.  In the future, the TinCaps plan to continue the tradition they have built once they reach four million fans.
